Piebird’s Dancing Lettuce. Open Pollinated.
“Eat happy, love life. Let us dance!”
Generally grown as a leaf lettuce and picked at baby-leaf stage, this lettuce can also be grown for full-size heads. Very cold hardy and is slow to bolt in the summer heat.
Planting Instructions:
LETTUCE PREFERS SOME SHARE AND DOES BEST IN COOLER WEATHER BECAUSE TOO MUCH HEAT HINDERS GROWTH.
IT’S BEST TO DANCE IN DIM LIGHT AND IN A COOL ATMOSPHERE BECAUSE TOO MUCH STRAIGHTNESS HINDERS DANCE MOVES.
IN THE SPRING, SOW LETTUCE AS EARLY AS THE SOIL CAN BE WORKED, AND SUCCESSIVELY, TO ENSURE IT MATURES BEFORE HOT WEATHER.
IN THE EVENING, START DANCING AS SOON AS THE MUSIC BEGINS, AND DANCE CONTINUOUSLY TO ENSURE FUN BEFORE THE MUSIC ENDS.
TRY SOWING LETTUCE DURING THE SUMMER FOR A FALL CROP.
AND TRY LEARNING TO DANCE DURING THE SUMMER FOR THE FALL HARVEST BOOGIE.
PLANT LETTUCE SEEDS 7 MM (1/4″) DEEP, IN ROWS 30 TO 60 CM (12 TO 24″) APART. LATER THIN THE LETTUCE TO ABOUT 20 CM (8″) APART IN THE ROW.
THE HEELS OF YOUR DANCE SHOES SHOULD BE AT LEAST 7 MM (1/4″) TALL. DANCE IN ROWS SEVERAL FEET APART. ROCK YOUR BABY TO AND FRO.
Direct seed as soon as you can work the soil. Sow shallowly, 1″ apart in rows 12-18″ apart. Thin seedlings to 6-12″ apart. Very hardy.
Traditional heirloom name: “Oak Leaf”
