Strange Squash from Outer Space – Piebird’s Heirloom Seeds

$4.50

Veganically grown at Piebird Farm Sanctuary! New resealable packages for 2022, with new artwork by Yan of Piebird!

This is our favourite squash here at Piebird because the vines climb great and the sweet fruits keep well. We grow them up 20ft structures, which is what started the joke that they come from outerspace: they dangle over our heads like some fledgling UFO. They originally come from the constellations Burgess Buttercup and Blue Hubbard, but we’ve been growing them as “Strange Squash from Outer Space” for 16 years.

Category:

Piebird’s Strange Squash from Outer Space. Open Pollinated.

In outer space, many forms of oddity are allowed. The lack of gravity creates weirdness. Maybe they’ve been mutated by solar radiation, maybe they are Apostles of Otherness — find out for yourself, unleash these seeds into your Earth.

Great climbers, will climb up back to outer space. Stores very well.

Planting Instructions:

Direct sow after last Spring frost, squash like warm soil. Plant 1/2 to 1 inch deep into hills. Sow 4 to 5 seeds per hill. Space hills about 4 to 8 feet apart. When the plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin to 2 to 3 plants per hill. Mulching plants helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Traditional heirloom name: “Burgess Buttercup & Blue Hubbard”
